Looking for cheap & quick Icelandic adventures; advice?

If all goes well, I will be traveling in mid September from the US to the UK and the cheapest flight is through Iceland. I can only spend 2 or 3 days on my layover. I’m looking for cheap (and secure) accommodation in Reykjavik and would be interested in day tours to see the Blue Lagoon, Thingvellir and Gullfoss (all in one -albeit long- day would be awesome) and whale watching trips out of Hafnarfjodur. Any advice?

I did the same thing a couple of years ago. Went to Paris and sent a few days enjoying Iceland on the layover.

I will tell you that ‘cheap’ doesn’t exist in Iceland. Everything there is very very expensive. I really wasn’t prepared for the cost of things when I went there, so I’m giving you a heads up.

I’ve never seen an excursion that entails everything you want to do in one tour. You will probably have to do two seperate tours at least to cover all that. I’ve included a link for the largest tour company in Reykjavik, and that one that did most of our tours. Even when a tour was booked with another agency, it was this company that picked us up – they pretty much have a monopoly on tourism. But the prices really aren’t that bad considering the difference in the cost of living and you really get a nice tour.
